J-Lo & Jumpsuits

Welcome to Facebook Friday and welcome to the weekend!!

Today's post is all about jumpsuits. I have ALWAYS been a lover of one piece items and the one celebrity who wears one pieces well is Jennifer Lopez. Below are a few of my favorite jumpsuit looks worn by the curvy celeb. My creations are a tad different because I wanted to do one dressy/chic look and one structured/masculine look. Which is YOUR fave Jennifer look and what's YOUR favorite look I created? Are you a fan of jumpsuits? Let me know...

One more thing; just because the weather is changing doesn't mean you can't pair an embellished cardigan or trendy leather jacket over your favorite summer jumpsuit. It's the perfect way to save money, and a great way to revamp a certain outfit.

Enjoy your weekend and I hope to see all my DMV friends at the Shop & Swap tomorrow afternoon (see info below). Take care!

FBF: Jessica & Selena

Morning, friends!

I'm going to keep today's post pretty simple. Below are my FBF picks and I hope you enjoy both looks. I am LOVING them both but for my style, I think Jessica's look would be my 1st choice. I love the blazer and the causal white tee underneath. Casual-chic at it's best! Selena looks lovely and very mature in her lave Dolce & Gabbana dress; perfect if you want to look glam and sophisticated.

So, which is YOUR fave? Which look would YOU rock?? Let me know. Enjoy your weekend and be blessed!

FBF: Boots & Plaid

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! What a week; whew! Am I the only one looking forward to this holiday weekend???? While I do have a busy weekend ahead, I plan on spending (most of) Sunday and Monday cihllin'. What are your plans for the weekend...?

Let's get to today's FBF. It's all about boots & plaid! When I first saw Tracee's look online, I fell in love with the dress and combat boots. I've seen this style before but never executed like Tracee. Her body fits looks amazing in the dress and the boots give the look an edge. It's perfect for the weekend and I plan to try something like this in the fall. The last look is rather simple and plain. I've done outfits on the blog before including denim and plaid; it's one of my fave combinations for the fall. Derek Luke looks great in his plaid shirt and vest, so I changed it up a bit and created a female version. This is yet another look perfect for weekends/errands.

So, which is YOUR favorite look? What can YOU see yourself wearing...combat boots or plaid??? LOL. Let me know!

Enjoy your holiday weekend and I will be sure to do the same ;-) Be blessed!

Facebook Friday: Colorful and Summery

Welcome to Friday my friends! All I have to say about this week is, "WHEW!". Without out getting into the details, this week was rather emotional and crazy. But I can honestly say that I feel 100% better and I am ready to start my weekend! As crazy as the week was, it ended on a great note; I won 2 tickets to the Curves Rock Weekend Runway Fashion Show this Saturday, thanks to Curvy CEO. I can't wait to go and see all the lovely models, bloggers, and other participants. HUGE thanks to Kim...see ya tomorrow ;-)

Onto my FBF post---today I took Eva Longoria and Jessica Alba's looks and re-created them into looks I would wear. I really like the color green and when I saw Eva's look I knew I could make it "my own". However, my fave look is Jessica's. While her look is very clean and more dressy than my creation, I love the simplicity of her look. When I recreated it, I thought of doing a maxi because I always go to a maxi dress when the weather is warm. My fave color is orange so I added some bold accessories and gave two shoe options, both I would wear.

So, what's your favorite look??? Which look can you see yourself re-creating to fit your taste??? Enjoy them both, and have a great day. Be blessed...

Facebook Friday: Floral Party

HAPPY FRIDAY people!!! I am super excited for the weekend...what about you?

Today's post is yet another edition of Facebook Friday. I've taken looks from supermodel, Joan Small and actress Denise Vasi (from Single Ladies) and recreated their looks. Both sets included floral bottoms and basic tops. However, I think both looks can be worn for a night out on the town, or a hot date night ;-)

I love how Joan wore a sheer top with her look; very subtlety sexy. My fave part of Denise's' look was her bold shoes! I love the pop of color. I decided to add a vest as my top instead of a blazer and tank. I felt the vest looked a bit more polished and chic.

Which is YOUR favorite look?? If I had to pick one look, I think I would probably wear Joan's. I always go for pants (or dresses) over shorts, LOL! Enjoy your day and be blessed!!!

PS Don't forget; you can see my fave celebrities looks HERE daily!

Facebook Friday: Denim & Lace

Well hello there!!! It's GREAT to be back!!! I've missed you all and I pray all has been well with you. As most of you know, I was in FL last week for my sisters national pageant. I am happy to say that she won her title and the trip was nothing short of AMAZING! I met a lot of great people, lil sis had a ball, and so did the fam. I will do an in depth post a bit later but that's a brief overview ;-)

I decided to take another week off from blogging, just to regroup in hopes to come back strong and better than ever! Sometimes is good to step away from things...it gives your mind a break and allows you to catch up on other things.

Now let's get to today's Facebook Friday! These two outfits remind me of what I wore while in FL. I was determined to be super comfy during the day because I knew I'd be running around. The first is such a classic summery look---denim, colorful bottoms and minimal jewelry. I added the oxfords and bulky watch in my recreation to give it a masculine look, yet included simple gold studs and a nude/pink lip to give it that feminine touch. The second look is another simple look to achieve. Skinny jeans are a MUST HAVE (for all seasons), and when paring it with a lace top it adds a romantic look. The animal print flats are fun, and the crochet bag screams SUMMER!

As usual, I love them both but my fave is Rachel Roy. I'm really into colorful denim/pants this season and denim is always a plus. Which is YOUR favorite???

Facebook Friday: Metallic & Floral

Happy FRIDAY!!! I hope your week was good and if you're on the East coast, I hope you stayed cool! It's been scorching hot the past few days here in MD and I can't wait for the temps to cool down.

Today's edition of FBF is all about a smart look and a playful look. Nene is rocking her business look in metallic and grey. I LOVE this look---very smart and classic! And not to mention, she looks VERY RICH ;-) The next look is more fun and it's something that I wouldn't necessarily go for. However after I created this look on Polyvore, I really fell in love with it. It's something I would really like to try and recreate one day. It's super colorful and although the pieces aren't a perfect match, it works!

Enjoy and have a productive and blessed day!!

Facebook Friday: Blogger Edition

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!! Boy am I glad to see the weekend finally come; I feel like this week was just dragging by. Not that I am going to be able to rest much this weekend but, LOL, I'm still happy to see Friday :-)

This edition of Facebook Friday features a look I wore and posted on Facebook/Instagram a few days ago. I simply love the simplicity of the look. The turquoise thrifted pants have become a staple item for my Summer wardrobe. I added a tan, over-sized top and wore gold accessories. The look is very fresh and summery and wearing these pieces together is SUPER comfy---the material of the pants and top are so soft. I recreated the look using a turquoise skirt and tan top. This look gives the same simple and fresh feel as my outfit does. After recreating my look, I'm on a hunt for a turquoise skirt!! Know where I can find one?? ;-)

My last look is from Eboni, over at The Fashionista Next Door. When I saw this look I instantly LOVED it! I really like how she added the pops of red to her look as well. And her dress is a perfect fit--not to mention I love the print :-) I used 2 dresses to looks on Polyvore to recreate her look. One with a dress, and the other with a skirt and top. I am more partial to the dress, but I am loving the top I used for the other look. The doff-the- shoulder top with the bow is too cute!

Which is YOUR favorite look???? Enjoy the pics and thanks, as always, for your support :-) Don't forget to follow me via-Facebook and Twitter!

PS I am also using my look to link to Work it Wednesday over at A Little Bit of Lacquer. You should link your looks too! ;-)

Naturally FabEllis: My 1st Guest Blogger

I hope you all have had a wonderful day!! I am super excited to announce that this post features Natural Hair/Beauty Blogger, Ashley. She and I met a few months ago and quickly became blogger buddies. We clicked instantly and I am so happy and honored that she agreed to be my first Guest Blogger on Nic's Picks. My goal is to feature a different guest blogger/topic each month this summer. If YOU are interested, let me know and we can make it happen :-)

I felt this post was a great idea because when I was natural for 2 1/2 years, I only knew braids and kinky twists as styles to go to. However, so many women are either natural or thinking about becoming natural that I wanted to give them other styles to think about, while reminding them the importance of hair care. So who would I turn to?? ;-) Ashley, of course! She has the best tips and the best advice for all you natural hair beauties out there. I know a lot of my followers are natural and I want to continue to connect with you ALL. With that said, enjoy this post and be sure to check out Ashley's blog, FabEllis and her Facebook page, HERE

My decision to go natural was a scary decision at the time, but I knew that it was a must in order for me to have healthy hair.  A year later, I can truly say I made an awesome decision.  My first year being natural was a huge learning curve, but through trial and error and wonderful resources like YouTube, I was able to find a regimen that works for me.  Ever since my journey has begun, it has been a goal of mine to share any tips I have learned for healthy hair.

With that being said, here are my top three tips for healthy, natural hair:

  1. Moisturize
If there is one thing I have learned, it is definitely that natural hair needs moisture.  Natural hair can easily become dry, especially in the summer time, so it is important to keep it moisturized.  Many get caught up in the various regimens that are out there, but the key to keeping hair moisturized is to begin by using a sulfate-free shampoo.  Sulfates strip hair of moisture that natural hair needs.  One of my favorite shampoos is Shea Moisture’s Moisture Retention shampoo.

After shampooing, I condition my hair, rinse and then use a deep conditioner for 20-30 minutes.  After rinsing the deep conditioner, I put a leave in conditioner on my hair and style with a cream based product like Beautiful Textures’ Moisture Butter.  By using a heavy cream on my hair, my hair is able to stay moisturized for up to a week without reapplying.  I apply light oils like tea tree or olive oil to my scalp if needed.

  1. Avoid Heat
I think this is one of the hardest things for naturals to do.  We are so accustomed to using heat on our hair, but trust me… If you lay off the heat, your hair WILL grow.  It’s important for you to remember this.  Heat alters your hair.  Every time you add heat to your hair, no matter how much heat protectant you use, you have the potential to damage your hair.  Now the next question typically is, “Well, if I can’t use heat on my hair, what am I supposed to?”  This leads me to my last tip.

  1. Protective Styles
Protective styles are awesome when it comes to natural hair.  Plus, they allow you to achieve, twists and curls without adding heat.  From two strand twists to bantu knots to braids, I love protective styles.  Some of my favorite styles are two strand twists and braids.  Please just keep in mind that if you do use extensions with a protective style that the style should not be too tight and after you take them out, give your hair at least two weeks to recover.  I have learned the hard way that going from extension style to extension style can be very damaging to hair.

With these three tips, you are sure to be on the road to healthy hair!  To stay updated with my natural hair journey and the products that I love, follow me here:

Facebook Friday: The Weekender Edition

Good morning friends, and HAPPY FRIDAY!!! Can you believe that its June already??? The days are just flying by, but I am definitely thankful and blessed to enter into another month.

I will keep this FBF post short and sweet today. The two looks I recreated are both looks that are PERFECT for the weekend. I really love bell bottoms and really flare jeans so the first look is right up my alley. The second look is from one of my dearest friends, Ayana. She is such a genius when it comes to designing and making clothes. She is a true fashionista and has been ever since I've know her. Oh and in case you're wondering, yes---she made her outfit ;-) I recreated her look using the red, white and blue as an inspiration. I am a huge fan of sneakers and hats so the look has my name written all over it ;-)

Which is YOUR favorite look?? Enjoy and ttys!!!...be blessed :-)

P.S You can follow Ayana on instagram (audacious_ladya) see her other designs, HERE or HERE.

FBF: Diddy & J. Alba

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! We made it through another week---amen!! ;-) Today's FBF features Diddy & Jessica Alba. Both looks, I love. I decided to pick Diddy because he is always so fresh and fly when he hits a red carpet. I tried to do the female version of his look. What do you think? Would Diddy approve...LOL.

I always love Jessica Alba's casual looks so, here is yet another one. She looks great in her colorful blazer and skinny's. This was a simple look and something that I would definitely wear. Side note: Ever since Jessica has become a mother, her style has really evolved. Dontcha think?

Which look is your fave; which would look would you more than likely want to wear?

FBF: Polka Dots & Leopard

Soooooo, guess what? Today is FRIDAY!!!! I am so ready to start the weekend. I have a few things planned. I'm most looking forward to chilling out and maybe doing some thrifting while in Delaware. The fiance' and I are headed to his hometown to attend a baby shower. I asked if we could stop by a few thrift stores and he agreed. So, hopefully, we will have time to do so.

As you know, today on the blog its Facebook Friday! I picked two fun looks to recreate; one with polka dots, the other with leopard and color. Of course, I threw my own spin on both looks---wouldn't be me if I didn't ;-) I'm really feeling both trends this season and I'm currently on the hunt for the perfect polka dot dress, and some leopard pants (suggestions welcome)! Are you into these trends for Spring/Summer 2012? Which look(s) can you see yourself wearing?

Enjoy the pics and have a blessed day!
